Ocean-Eyes-Eye-Contact-Lenses

At Ocean Eyes Optometrists, we love contact lenses! We know that today’s wide range of contact lenses provides an option for just about everyone. We have the flexibility to meet almost every visual and lifestyle need. Whether you are longsighted or short-sighted, you require multifocal correction or are astigmatic; you too can experience the freedom of contact lenses.

Comfort…

Advances in contact lens technology means that contacts are more comfortable than ever before. The latest contact lenses are made from materials that are highly comfortable and breathable so your eyes remain fresh and lubricated right throughout the day. So even if you have found contacts difficult in the past, it may be time to try again!

Keeping Your Eyes Healthy…

Before being fitted with contact lenses, we will assess the health and wellbeing of your eyes to ensure you are ready for contact lens wear, and to discuss the best type of lenses for your vision and lifestyle. In general, contact lenses should not cause any issues for your eye health if you keep to the replacement schedule and correct lens care regimen recommended by our practice. The very few people who do experience eye complications from wearing contact lenses are usually those who fail to follow lens care instructions. This includes wearing lenses past their replacement date, sleeping in lenses, especially those that are not approved for overnight wear, or poor lens hygiene.

We will ask you to return for a check -up within one to two weeks after you begin wearing contact lenses, and regularly after that to monitor your eye health.

Many Options…

There are many choices when it comes to the type of contact lenses you can select. The best solution for you will depend on how often you plan to wear them as well as your visual needs and budget. As independent optometrists, we have access to all brands and designs of contact lenses, and are free to recommend the one which is most suitable for your individual requirements.

Daily disposable contact lenses are simply thrown out at night and replaced in the morning with a “fresh” new pair.

Extended wear contact lenses are lenses that have been approved for overnight wear. These can be great for a busy lifestyle and seeing clearly at any time, including first thing in the morning. These require more frequent follow-up and strict attention to hygiene.

Daily wear contact lenses are worn for up to a fortnight or a month depending on the lens, and are removed and cleaned nightly for reuse the next day.

Multifocal contact lenses enable people in their 40s and over to see at all distances without having to wear glasses.

Contact lenses for astigmatism are available in all these options, depending on your prescription.

Rigid Gas Permeable (RGP) lenses are a great option for motivated individuals, particularly those who have high or unusual prescriptions which may be unavailable in soft contact lenses.

Contact-LensesREADY?

The first thing to do is to book in for a general eye examination. When we have all your lifestyle, eye health and latest prescription details at hand, we can recommend the best type of lenses for you, and demonstrate this to you in the form of trial lenses, so you know you will be happy. Our practice staff will teach you how to insert and remove your lenses, as well as how to care for them. This process can be a little tricky to begin with, so we give you all the training and support you will need to confidently manage this process at home, even if it takes a few visits. You’ll soon discover just how easy wearing contact lenses can be.

COSTS

Depending on your prescription, Medicare may cover you for additional costs related to your contact lens assessment and fitting. We will discuss this with you at your initial visit, so you are fully informed. Contact lens prices vary depending on the particular option you choose, but can be as little as $2 per day—less than a cup of coffee! And yes, you can claim them on your “Extras” Optical health insurance cover.

When you need to order more contacts, simply call us or email to request a further supply. We may have them in stock, or we can order them in within a couple of days for you to collect.   We are also happy to post them to you if that is more convenient. And should you have any issues or difficulties, we are close at hand, right here in Ocean Grove!
